How To Clean Your Brushes

Maintaining clean makeup brushes is essential for a number of reasons. Not only do dirty brushes spread bacteria, they can also lead to breakouts and result in a less flawless makeup application. But with so many makeup brush cleaners on the market, it can be hard to know which one is best for your brushes. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to clean your makeup brushes to keep them in top condition.

Step 1: Gather your supplies. You'll need a mild soap or brush cleaner, a clean towel or cloth, and a deep cleaning solution (optional).

Step 2: Wet the bristles of the brush. Run the bristles of the brush under lukewarm water, taking care to avoid getting the handle or ferrule (the metal part that holds the bristles) wet.

Step 3: Apply soap or brush cleaner. Squeeze a small amount of soap or brush cleaner into the palm of your hand and gently swirl the brush in it to work up a lather. If your brushes are particularly dirty, you can use a deep cleaning solution like baby shampoo or a brush cleaning mat.

Step 4: Rinse the brush. Rinse the brush under lukewarm water until the water runs clear. Be sure to rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue.

Step 5: Reshape the bristles. Gently squeeze out any excess water and use a clean towel or cloth to reshape the bristles.

Step 6: Let the brush dry. Place the brush on a clean towel or cloth to air dry, or use a brush drying rack if you have one. Avoid drying the brush in direct sunlight or using a blow dryer, as this can damage the bristles.

By following these simple steps, you can keep your makeup brushes clean and in top condition. Cleaning your brushes regularly will not only improve the performance of your makeup, it will also help to prevent breakouts and keep your skin healthy.
